A 21-year-old, who is thought to be Buckinghamshire’s youngest general election candidate, has launched his campaign.
Cole Caesar from Burnham, who was born on December 7, 2002, is standing as an independent in Beaconsfield on July 4.
The property manager, who describes himself as right wing, would be one of the 10 youngest MPs in British political history if elected in four weeks’ time.
“I have always been put off by my age,” he told the Local Democracy Reporting Service, “I always thought the age was a negative factor and that people would not take me seriously or that I haven’t experienced the world enough.
He added: “Now I am thinking that my age could be a benefit because it is something different. A lot of people look at youngsters now as people who are not interested in politics and are not patriotic.”
If elected, Caesar would focus on improving GP centres and opening pharmacies for longer, to create more appointments for residents.
He also pledged to tackle fly tipping by removing the charges for larger vehicles at recycling centres and focus on police reform.
He said: “Mental health is used to get away with criminal activity. I want to stop mental health being used in this way.”
Caesar has also welcomed Buckinghamshire Council’s recent refusal to grant planning for the proposed Marlow Film Studios.
He said: “I don’t agree with it. I am glad that it’s been stopped. I think the Green Belt should have more government laws protecting it.”
