Independents
From Stuart Wilson, Leader of the Independents.
Independents are the only candidates who will put residents first. Being Independent does what it says on the tin - you can speak up for your residents and what you consider to be the right decision rather than be constrained by one political ideology.
Independents do not have to follow a party whip so they vote according to what they think is best for residents, on an issue by issue basis, rather than being forced to vote a certain way, unlike the Conservatives on Buckinghamshire Council.
Independents have demonstrated that we can work constructively on a cross-party basis throughout the last four years with deep dive reviews on homelessness, GP provision, flooding. We have also led a detailed consultation response opposing the closure of day centres with Lib Dem and Conservatives councillors. As a result of us all working together, the Council is taking a long look at our fresh proposals.
Independents are not concerned with all the political activity associated with the major political parties. We simply focus on our communities. We do not have to play to the party membership gallery and be seen scoring political points in the Council Chamber.
Since Buckinghamshire moved to a single tier authority, the gap between local communities and the Council has widened considerably. Independents fill that gap because they are only focused on residents. With the threat of even larger combined authorities, it has never been more important to have community representation rather than a poor imitation of Westminster. Local government has been abused by political parties as a nursery and proving ground for wannabe MPs. This is to the detriment of good public services and sound financial management.
When you vote for Independents, you are getting solid local candidates who know and understand all the local issues. They will not be interested in political posturing to improve their chances of promotion in the party hierarchy. They will be 100% focussed on strengthening communities and improving neighbourhoods for your benefit. People not politics.
