Aylesbury Mosque recently had a meeting with Aylesbury Foodbank to discuss being a foodbank partner. Operations Manager Heather-Joy Garrett and Chair of Trustees Kevin Piper visited the Mosque to discuss the partnership.
The cost of living crisis has seen a marked increase in foodbank use generally in the population, but increasingly more and more Muslim families are turning to foodbanks for their food and dietary needs.
Traditionally and historically, mosques have always been at the forefront of feeding people and this tradition needs to be revived more now than ever before. Aylesbury Mosque and our community will play its part in feeding people who are struggling regardless of their background and will become one of the places where people can register for and pickup food boxes soon. All items in the food boxes supplied by the mosque will be for a halal diet, but can be consumed by anyone.
The Mosque shall also become a drop-off location for food items that go into food boxes and this will be starting soon. You will be able to bring dry goods and items that are relevant to a Muslim, South-Asian diet like Basmati rice, beans and lentils and other such items. They will will also have the facility to issue halal meat vouchers that can be used in the halal shops in town.
If anyone know of any families who are struggling with their food shopping, please contact them. They will ensure strict confidentiality and preservation of dignity of anyone who is referred to us.
They will also be looking for volunteers to help the mosque with this project. Please get in touch.
