Aylesbury's newly elected Labour MP has voted for the Government’s proposals to scrap the winter fuel allowance for millions of pensioners.
Laura Kyrke-Smith gave her backing to the Labour motion which will see around 10 million people will now miss out on the payment of up to £300.
A Conservative move to block the government’s plans was defeated by a majority of 120.
Shouts of “shame” could be heard in the Commons as the result was read out.
Lib Dem MP for Amersham and Chesham Sarah Green and Tory Mid Bucks MP Greg Smith both voted against.
Mr Smith says he will continue to fight for local pensioners:
Laura Kyrke-Smith MP said: "Yesterday, I voted with the Government in support of the changes, as I support the overall programme of change that we were elected to deliver. Unfortunately, given the dire state of the finances that we have inherited from the Conservatives, this Government is having to make some tough decisions and this is one of them.
I am however determined that the most vulnerable pensioners in Aylesbury and the villages get the right support. I am encouraging people to check their eligibility for pension credit and register if they haven’t already. I submitted questions to the Work & Pensions Secretary to ask what additional support is available and I’m ensuring that people are aware of everything on offer.
