Aylesbury VIP's visit Adult learning Centre

Buckinghamshire Adult Learning held an open day at its centre in Quarrendon, Aylesbury last week with visitors able to see at first hand, the range of courses and facilities on offer.

Invited guests included Aylesbury MP, Rob Butler, Mayor of Aylesbury, Cllr Anders Christensen, Cllr Sherrilyn Bateman, Cllr Alan Sherwell and representatives from Jobcentreplus, the NHS, Bucks Mind, Building Futures, Trading Standards, Space Aylesbury, P3 Housing and Aylesbury Youth Action.

They were given a tour of the centre and met the Principal of Adult Learning, Jacqueline Wilson, tutors, staff and current learners.

MP Rob Butler met former learner Colin, who explained his journey from unemployment to full-time work and the benefits he has received from studying with Buckinghamshire Adult Learning.

Staff gave presentations on the wide range of courses on offer, including: 

  • Free digital drop-in sessions in the spacious IT classroom, equipped with new PCs and Chromebooks
  • Fully funded, flexible, online distance learning courses on subjects including Understanding Autism, Mental Health Awareness and Principles of Business Administration
  • "Learning For All" courses for adults with learning disabilities
  • Free English and maths courses including GCSEs
  • English for Speakers of Other Languages courses
  • Family Learning and Learning for Personal Development courses.

Anita Cranmer, Buckinghamshire Council's Cabinet Member for Children's Services said: “This event was a fabulous opportunity to showcase the vast array of courses and qualifications available via our adult learning service. Visitors were able to ask questions and discover the wealth of opportunities for learning and development available to all, right here on our doorstep.”
