Double yellow lines in Beaconsfield are to be removed and right turn bans introduced, Buckinghamshire Council has said.
The measures, which also include parking restrictions, have been proposed along a section of Maxwell Road including its service road opposite Garvin Avenue.
The council has asked for residents’ views on the proposals and has set a deadline of 11.59pm on Friday January 3, 2025 to respond to its consultation.
Its highways team says the restrictions are needed in preparation for Shanly Homes’ forthcoming development of 33 flats in Maxwell Road.
The council said: “Following the approval of a new development on Maxwell Road, Beaconsfield, it was highlighted that the service road would need to be made suitable for vehicular traffic prior to construction commencing.”
Under the proposals, existing double yellow lines will be reduced by around 8.5m east of the junction of the Maxwell Road service road and the new development road, while another set, west of the new junction will be reduced by around 7m and a parking bay removed.
New double yellow lines have been proposed at the new junction ‘to follow the kerb into the new constructed bell mouth of the access road’.
Meanwhile ‘no right hand turn’ signs and posts will be installed for the new development road onto the Maxwell Road service road and from that road onto the new development road.
Another set of double yellow lines around 11m long would also be removed at the other end of the service road – approximately 17m from the easterly junction of Maxwell Road.
Meanwhile, an area of ‘limited waiting between Monday and Saturday 8am to 6pm’ with ‘no return within two hours’ on the service road will be removed.
In addition, an existing parking bay on Maxwell Road will be extended to accommodate two further cars, while double yellow lines on that section of the street will be removed.
The council states its reasons for the restrictions as: “For avoiding danger to persons or other traffic using the road or any other road or for preventing the likelihood of any such danger arising.
“For facilitating the passage on the road or any other road of any class of traffic, including pedestrians.”
Any proposed traffic restrictions will be informed by comments received from residents and businesses, the council said.
It added that if results show that the introduction and amendments to its proposals were ‘widely supported’, then it would begin the process of making the changes, once a formal decision has been made by the council.
