Steve Moore from Stoke Mandeville is running over 300 miles between 102 London Fire Brigade stations for charity.
The Bucks Firefighter will set off tomorrow (21/5/24) and run over over five days in aid of Rennie Grove Peace and The Fire Fighters Charity this month.
His route will start at London Fire Brigade’s HQ on Union Street and end at the Great Fire of London Monument on Monument Square.
Speaking about the challenge, Steve said: “When I moved to my current station in Edmonton, they had a big map of London on the wall that showed all of the London Fire Brigade fire stations. I kept looking at the map, wondering whether it was possible to run between them all.
“Endurance challenges have always been something I’ve enjoyed so I’m looking forward to getting out there and making this idea – that was sparked by a map on the wall - into a reality that raises lots of money for two great causes.”
It has taken him a year to plan and finalise the route, which he will begin on 21 May.
The hospice care charity provides support for adults and children with a progressive life-limiting illness in Buckinghamshire and Hertfordshire. Steve was inspired by his wife, who works as a palliative care nurse for the organisation.
Tracey Hancock, Director of Fundraising at Rennie Grove Peace said: “Everybody at Rennie Grove Peace will be cheering on Steve on when he takes to the streets of the capital, and we wish him the best of luck with his challenge.”
Steve is also fundraising for The Fire Fighters Charity, which offers specialist support for the UK fire service community.
Steve received support at one of its three rehabilitation centres in Devon after injuring his back a few years ago.
The charity’s Community Fundraiser, Clare Delaney, said: “I want to wholeheartedly thank Steve for organising such a fantastic challenge. Every pound donated to Steve’s fundraiser will make an incredible difference.”
