A group of charity cyclists have nearly made their way across the British Isles, to visit 11 Spinal Injury Centres, over 11 consecutive days, Bucks Radio caught up with them as they Arrived at Stoke Mandeville.
Horatio’s Garden is named after Horatio Chapple, a schoolboy who wanted to be a doctor. It was Horatio’s idea to create a garden and when he suggested the idea to patients spending time in the spinal treatment centre, they were unanimously enthusiastic.
Tragically, Horatio’s life was cut short at 17 when his camp was attacked by a polar bear whilst on an expedition to Svalbard.
We chatted to founder of Horatio's Garden Charity Dr Olivia Chapple.
In just ten short years, they’ve grown from a local charity to a national organisation which is now planting hope for patients and their loved ones throughout the UK. Their vision is to have a thriving Horatio’s Garden in all the 11 NHS spinal injury centres in the UK.
A phenomenal team of five including former patient, Toby Morgan-Grenville, Horatio Chapple’s brother, Titus Chapple, Horatio’s good friend Robin Butler, Olivia Caplan and Mortimer McKechnie, are taking on this mammoth challenge of cycling to all 11 NHS spinal injury centres in 11 days.
After a long ride we spoke to Toby Morgan-Grenville,
Their total raised to day is just short of £60,000
