Thames Valley Police are trying to encourage more people from a Black, Asian or minority ethnic background (BAME) to join the force.
Their Positive Action & Engagement Team (PAET) are inviting the BAME community to attend their online Careers Discovery Event to find out more about what a career in policing can offer.
The aim of the event is to provide honest information that will inform, inspire and encourage serious consideration of the diverse career. Organisers say policing is a career that offers the opportunity to make a genuine difference to people’s lives and our communities, in a way that no other job can.
During the discovery event, you will hear from the PAET team themselves about their experiences of joining TVP, the reasons why they joined, their career journeys, the challenges they have encountered and overcome, and how the service has been supportive of them as officers from Black and Asian backgrounds.
You will also hear from a number of specialist teams and departments that will highlight the breadth of opportunities a career in policing can offer. These include:
- Roads Policing Unit
- Incident Response
- Surveillance
- Mounted Policing Unit
- Neighbourhood Policing
- CSI (Crime Scene Investigation)
- Tactical Dog Unit
- Armed Response
- Investigation (including Force CID, Major Crime, Domestic Abuse Investigation Unit)
In addition, representatives from their Recruitment and Vetting teams will be on hand to discuss the application process and what you can expect.
So if you have ever been curious but are unsure if this is for you ... “Will I fit in? Will I have the support to progress? Will my personal beliefs and culture be accepted and supported? Do I need to be a certain height or level of fitness?”
This is your chance to find out more and ask questions.
It's all happening on Sunday 9 May, between 2pm and 5pm. Join online through this Event Brite link.
