UPDATE: High Wycombe Police Station and Buckinghamshire County Council’s offices closed after suspicious object found

High Wycombe Police Station and Buckinghamshire Council offices reopen

A cordon was in place and buildings evacuated after a suspicious package was found in a vehicle parked near the police station this morning. St Marys Street and Queen Victoria Road were closed, but have now reopened.

Detective Superintendent Rebecca Mears said: “I’m pleased to update that the package has been examined and is not of concern. Thank you to local residents, businesses and visitors to the town for their patience while the cordon was in place for everyone’s safety.”

A man arrested under the Explosives Act in connection with the incident remains in police custody at this time.

St Marys Street and Queen Victoria Road are closed and likely to remain closed for some time.

The Swan car park is within the cordoned off area, but we are facilitating those parked there to be able to leave.

Police would advise motorists and pedestrians to avoid the area at this time. They will provide further updates when the road reopens.

Detective Superintendent Rebecca Mears said: “A man has been arrested under the Explosives Act in connection with the incident. There is no indication that this is related to terrorism, but we are keeping an open mind.

“We will deal with the incident as quickly as possible, but our priority is the safety of the public.”
