HS2 to reduce number of HGVs using narrow Bucks street

The high speed rail company has told Bucks Radio that, after reviewing their construction plans, they will significantly reduce the number of HGVs due to use Dobbins Lane.

They say around 60 HGVs will now be directed along the road, which is down from 150. The company maintain that's an average of one return journey per day for 12 weeks, and similar sized vehicles, such as bin lorries, already use the route.

HS2 told us that their contractors have reviewed the design of the access track, simplified the construction method by reducing the amount of aggregate and therefore reduced the number of HGVs needed to build it.

Its contractor EKFB is proposing to build a 4m by 3m spring chamber in farmland northwest of Wendover and upgrade the access track to allow future maintenance.

The chamber takes water from naturally occurring springs and releases it into watercourses to manage flows.

A spokesperson for HS2 Ltd said:

"We are pleased to confirm that after some detailed design refinement with our contractors, we have reduced the number of HGVs expected to use Dobbins Lane to an average of one return journey per day across 12 weeks. Their speed will be limited to 20mph and we will manage the flow of vehicles to avoid the school run. Dobbins Lane is already used by HGVs and bin lorries – and there is no reason to think that properly managed HS2 traffic would pose a greater risk to pedestrians or cyclists."

Worried Wendover residents have already launched a petition against the original plan, saying "our safety is at risk", and the news comes just days before locals are set to protest.
