A small number of students attending the University of Buckingham have contracted the COVID-19 variant first identified in India.
Those affected have had only mild symptoms and have completed their 10-day periods of self-isolation.
Bucks Council are keen to stress that following extensive contact tracing, there is currently no reason to think that any cases have spread beyond those already identified, or within the wider Buckingham community.
The University of Buckingham and Buckinghamshire Council are encouraging all members of the university community who have been on campus over the last month to get tested to identify any other possible asymptomatic cases to prevent further spread.
The targeted testing will be taking place at the university campus on Friday 7th and Saturday 8th May, and is for members of the university community only, as well as any of their close or household contacts who may also be eligible for testing.
There is no evidence to suggest that this variant causes more serious illness than other variants. However, tracking and controlling the spread of this variant is important from a public health point of view.
