Lymphoma Action launch Volunteer Recognition Awards

Lymphoma Action, the only charity in the UK dedicated to lymphoma and based in Aylesbury, is hosting its first ever Volunteer Recognition Awards on Monday.

The event, which will recognise the breadth of skills, time, support and commitment of its volunteers and celebrate their achievements, will be hosted by Chief Executive, Ropinder Gill, who will present awards for length of service as well as outstanding contributions.

The charity’s volunteers include individuals who provide invaluable insight and support through their lived experience of a lymphoma diagnosis, treatment and life after lymphoma. This understanding underpins the unique quality they bring to Lymphoma Action’s services.

They also support the charity by fundraising, facilitating online support meetings, moderating its Facebook group, and hosting workshops.

Healthcare professionals volunteer their vital time and expertise to the development of all information and resources as well as offering guidance on consultations and best practice, as well as playing a crucial role at conferences and events.

Karen Rabjohn, Director of Fundraising and Communications at Lymphoma Action, said: “Some of our volunteers have given their time to the Charity for as long as 27 years! The Volunteer Recognition Awards create a unique opportunity for us to say thank you and celebrate our amazing volunteers’ contributions and achievements.

“Time is one of our most precious resources, and our volunteers give theirs freely in order to support others and ensure that nobody has to face their lymphoma alone and that really is worth celebrating.”

Every year, more than 19,500 new cases of lymphoma are identified in the UK alone, making it the UK’s fifth most common cancer - and the most common among teenagers and young adults

Symptoms include a lump in the neck, armpit or groin; feeling worn-out for no reason, unexplained weight loss, excessive sweating at night, constant itching for no reason.

If you are concerned that you are experiencing these symptoms, visit your GP.
