A man who was caught on camera dumping two mattresses at a known fly-tipping hotspot in Buckinghamshire has paid the price for his crime after appearing in court.
Mohammad Zaid, 50, from Uxbridge, pleaded guilty to the offence of illegal dumping of waste when he appeared at High Wycombe Magistrates' Court on Wednesday 22 January 2025.
The court heard that on Sunday 30 September 2023, two mattresses were dumped at the A412 Uxbridge Road, Buckinghamshire. Buckinghamshire Council's Enforcement Team carries out regular work in the area due to it being heavily blighted with fly-tipping.
On this occasion, the team reviewed CCTV footage from a nearby camera which showed a vehicle pulled into a layby on the road. The CCTV then showed the driver exiting the vehicle and depositing the mattresses next to the layby. The driver then re-entered the vehicle and drove away, leaving the mattresses behind.
The vehicle was traced back to Mr Zaid who attended an interview under caution where he admitted to dumping the mattresses.
Magistrates at High Wycombe Magistrates' Court fined Mr Zaid £416 and ordered him to pay full costs of £1,500. A victim surcharge of £166 was levied – making a total to pay of £2,082.
Thomas Broom, Cabinet Member for Climate Change and Environment said: "This man took what he thought was the easy option when it came to getting rid of his waste, but he found out the hard way that breaking the law is never a sensible option and in Bucks, we won't tolerate fly-tipping of any sort."
