Sam Cripps, aged 20, was sentenced to a year and eight months in prison after being found guilty of one count of causing death by careless driving at Aylesbury Crown Court on Tuesday (26/4).
He was also disqualified from driving for four years and 10 months and will have to take an extended retest when his disqualification expires.
It's after an incident on 5th May 2019, where a Vauxhall Corsa being driven by Cripps hit the rear of a Piaggio Vespa moped on the A355 Amersham Road.
The collision caused the rider, Zaide Sandy, from High Wycombe, to come off the moped and caused injuries from which he sadly died in hospital.
Detective Constable Katy Kent, of the Joint Operations Serious Collision Investigation Unit, based at Three Mile Cross police station, said:
“This was a tragic incident in which a young man lost his life.
“My thoughts remain with his family at this incredibly difficult time.
“The judge commended the dignity and strength Zaide’s mother showed throughout the trial and her ability to read her own victim impact statement in court today, which I would like to echo.
“The judge also commended the investigation team for their work in this case, and I would also like to thank everyone who has helped us bring justice for Zaide.”
