A man from Gerrard’s Cross has been jailed for six and a half months for the theft of a trailer in Coleshill, near Amersham, last October.
31-year-old Edward Conory received the sentence at High Wycombe Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 8th February after pleading guilty to the theft and driving while disqualified and without insurance.
At around 2.53pm on Tuesday 26th October 2021, witnesses saw a green 4x4 hitch up a cattle trailer at a farm on the Amersham Road and drive away with it.
Fourteen minutes later officers located the trailer attached to a green Fiat Sedici parked in a layby on Copperkins Lane. Two people in the car ran off before officers could detain them.
The vehicle was found to be displaying false registration plates and the trailer was positively identified by the farmer as the one stolen.
During a subsequent forensic examination of the vehicle a fingerprint was found on a window which was matched to Conory.
Conory was arrested after a car he was driving overtook officers on patrol in Slough on Monday 7th February and it was discovered he did not have a licence.
Conory was subsequently charged for the theft of the trailer as well as the driving offences.
Investigating officer, PC Matt Cumming of the Neighbourhood Policing team, based at Amersham police station, said: “This case involved a very brazen theft of a cattle trailer from a working farm.
“These crimes have a huge impact on our rural communities and we are pleased to have been able to secure a conviction and custodial sentence in this case.
“I would like to reassure the farming community that Thames Valley Police take these offences seriously and we will continue to strive to bring a stop to this type of offending.”
