Man sentenced for fraud and carrying knives in High Wycombe

Jason Edwards pleaded guilty and was sentenced to eight weeks in prison, suspended for a year, and fined £40 at High Wycombe Magistrates’ Court on Monday (22/11).

Edwards, 39, of no fixed abode, stole a wallet from a car in Chairborough Road sometime between 1am and 10am on 3 August this year.

The defendant then used a bank card from the wallet to make two purchases at Asda in Crest Road on the same day.

At around 1.20pm on 20 November, Edwards tried to take £110 worth of stock from Sainsbury’s on Oxford Road without paying and was detained by staff.

After the defendant was arrested by police, two knives were found in his possession.

PC Daniel Page, based at High Wycombe police station, said:

“The weapon that officers located had the potential to cause significant injury had it been used.

“Thames Valley Police will not tolerate the carrying of any weapons in a public place, and I am pleased that he has been convicted of this offence.

“I would remind anybody who thinks that it is acceptable to carry a weapon that officers can stop and search individuals if they have reasonable grounds to do so, and we will work tirelessly to ensure weapons are kept off the streets of our communities.”
