The latest Covid-19 data for Buckinghamshire suggests that the peak of this current wave may have passed as new cases decline week on week, although numbers remain very high.
There were 7,620 new cases reported in the region in the last seven days – a decrease of 3.5% on the previous week.
The case rate for Buckinghamshire is 1,392.9 people per 100,000, which is now below the overall UK rate of 1,736.8. Until last week, the region had been seeing a case rate above that of the whole country throughout the autumn and early winter.
It is also important to remember that the case rate in October was around 400 per 100,000, so the improvements are relative to the huge surge caused by the Omicron variant.
Sadly, three people have been reported to have died with Covid-19 in the last week.
62.4% of those eligible in Buckinghamshire have now had their booster shot, which experts say is critical for fighting the Omicron variant.
While this is roughly in line with the UK (62.5%), the region remains behind the rest of the country regarding those who are double-vaccinated. 80% of over-12s are fully vaccinated in Buckinghamshire compared to 83.1% for the UK.
