Train operators are warning of major changes and disruption as workers go on strike
We’re being warned of a much-reduced service on the trains this week in Buckinghamshire, with strike action from Tuesday.
Chiltern Railways say we should only travel if absolutely necessary, with either cut-back or no service on some routes this week.
London Northwestern have also warned of major changes, with some stations like Cheddington only having a bus service.
Members of the National Union of Rail, Maritime and Transport Workers (RMT) have announced their intention to stage strike action on Tuesday 21 June, Thursday 23 June and Saturday 25 June.
On Chiltern Railways, the service will be extremely limited, with the following service pattern from Tuesday 21st June to Saturday 25th June;
- Between Banbury - Birmingham: No trains in either direction
- Between London - Banbury: One train per hour in each direction
- Between London - Oxford: No trains in either direction
- Between London - Aylesbury via High Wycombe: One train per hour in each direction
- Between Aylesbury - Amersham: One train per hour in each direction (except Tuesday 21st June when there will be no service on this route)
- Between London – Aylesbury via Amersham (Metropolitan line): No trains in either direction.
There will be no Chiltern services north of Banbury, between Amersham and London on the Metropolitan line, or to Oxford, between Tuesday 21 June and Saturday 25 June.
A very limited number of LNR services will run on these dates, with passengers urged to only travel if essential. In order to allow vital freight transportation to continue, those services which do run will operate between 7.30am and 6.30pm on these days.
A significantly reduced service will also operate on Wednesday 22 June and Friday 24 June as the strike action will impact the usual operation of the railway. On these days services will commence at 7.30am with last trains earlier than usual.
Jonny Wiseman, LNR customer experience director, said:
“It is very disappointing that this planned strike action by the RMT is set to cause significant disruption to our passengers.
“We will be operating a very limited service all through the week and we are asking customers to only travel with us if their journey is essential and no other transport option is available to them.
“Passengers holding tickets or season tickets will be entitled to refunds and should visit our website for information.”
The following routes will have a limited service in operation between 7.30am and 6.30pm on strike days:
- Northampton - London Euston – 2 trains per hour
- Birmingham – Northampton – 1 train per hour
- Birmingham - Crewe – 1 train per hour
- No trains will run on any other LNR route, including London Euston-Crewe, Birmingham-Liverpool, St Albans Abbey-Watford Junction and Bedford-Bletchley.
Due to planned engineering works, no train service will run between Birmingham and Northampton on Saturday 25 June.
