Queens Park Arts Centre features free artist exhibition

Aylesbury’s Queens Park Arts Centre has unveiled a new free-to-view exhibition from artist Salina Jane entitled ‘Following the Thread’, running in its gallery space now until 1st December.

Salina is an Illustrator, Artist and Printmaker. She was born and brought up in London to East Indian, Guyanese parents.

Still printmaking in lino and etching, Salina favours drawing, particularly with ink, creating fine details which draw the viewer in.

Much of Salina’s work is concerned with telling stories, of life in London, her passions, hobbies and loves.  She makes quirky illustrations about the knitting and crafting world and visualises stories from that community.

Salina also uses her artwork to explore her family background, the experience of Indians who came to Guyana as Indentured labourers, and the journey of migration that brought her family to the UK.  In work created for this exhibition Salina is following the thread of a journey around the world by her family and the parts of her life that connects her to that past.

‘We’re delighted to be welcoming Salina to Queens Park for our last exhibition of the year,’ says QPAC’s artistic director Sarah Lewis. ‘Salina’s work is truly inspirational and offers a fascinating journey crossing countries and cultures. She’s been a wonderful supporter of QPAC and we’re proud to help bring her work to a new audience.’

In addition to the exhibition, Salina will be running a series of workshops and events giving insight into her work. A portraiture workshop on 20 November will be followed by two free events – a ‘meet the artist’ opportunity on 24 November, and a ‘knit & natter’ session on 27 November.

Salina Jane’s exhibition ‘Following the Thread’ runs at Queens Park Arts Centre from 16 November to 1 December. Entry is free. For full details, including opening times, visit www.queensparkarts.com
