Aylesbury Town Council’s annual Competition attracted a range of residents and organisations to show off their gardening greatness.
The judges gave special awards to the following entrants:
• Best Overall Garden – Thomas Brown
The judges were impressed by this tropical garden with an “amazing variety of plants”. Judges were also amazed by the gardener’s knowledge and enthusiasm and how his beehive knowledge was self-taught from YouTube videos.
• Best Newcomer – Paul Flower
The judges said this garden was “a little jewel with an amazing amount of variety planting. An imaginative and inspirational garden.”
• Best Overall Garden (Organisation) – St Peters Church
The enthusiasm of the volunteers of all ages and abilities shone. They host a weekly garden drop in for anyone to join and hold regular events in the garden and welcome the wider community to participate such as children’s groups from The Pace Centre. The judges liked how QR codes were featured so recipes relating to the produce could be easily accessed.
• Best Newcomer (Organisation) – Poplar Grove Practice
This garden was started in memory of a late colleague. The judged noted the use of recycled materials, the huge poplar tree and the transformation of the area providing a great space for patients and staff. They appreciated the thought that has gone into attracting wildlife.
• Judges’ Commendation for Most Joyful Garden – Stephen Clarke
The judges said this garden had the ‘wow’ factor. While judging, passers-by stopped to admire the sunflowers. The gardener made his own table and chairs from recycled wood and digs in dead plants to act as compost. The colour and vigour of plants were impressive.
Entrants were awarded prizes by Cllr Anders Christensen and Michael Donnachie from Michael Anthony Estate Agents at the Aylesbury in Bloom Garden Competition Awards Evening on Thursday 20 October.
