Secondhand cars sold from layby causing anger among residents

The use of a roadside layby in Aylesbury as a pop-up forecourt for selling secondhand cars is causing anger among some local residents.

The layby on Camborne Avenue, just yards from the Bedgrove roundabout, can regularly be seen to have different cars parked there with ‘For Sale’ signs on them.

Buckinghamshire Council Cabinet member Mark Winn told Bucks Radio he has received multiple complaints about the issue and wants to hear residents’ views on a proposed short-cut solution.

One resident complained: “This week there have been three cars for sale in the layby at the junction with the A413. Why can’t the council be proactive in putting a stop to this activity.”

Another described the activity as “an eyesore.”

Councillor Winn now believes the quickest and most cost-effective solution maybe to simply close off the layby permanently.

He explained to Bucks Radio: “Legally you shouldn’t sell two cars less than 500 metres apart and obviously this is going on with two cars right next to each other. But unfortunately, all the contact details are different and I think we’d also find if we checked that the registration details would be different, so it’d be very hard to take a legal route on this one, so we need to look at other options.”

Mr Winn added: “So I’m asking residents – do they actually use that layby?”

As well as a photo taken by a resident, numerous images on Google Maps, taken at different times, show a variety of cars for sale.
