The Unbound Sketchbook troupe are returning to Aylesbury with another plethora of pages from their mighty book of comedy sketches, as they debut new show ‘Intergalactic Bailiffs’ at Queens Park Arts Centre’s Limelight Theatre on 16 October.
A must-see for comedy fans, the show is the sixth compendium of sketches from the Sketchbook and sees the team make a long-awaited return to the stage after lockdown. Audiences can look forward to meeting a brand-new comedy double-act called ‘Pasties & Cake’, find out what really happens when you challenge the Grim Reaper to a game of chess, and discover the true reason why the chicken crossed the road.
Along the way there’s a visit from the titular extra-terrestrial repossession experts, a glimpse inside the life of a woman married to a hapless sitcom character, and a trip to a bakery where there’s something very wrong with the sausage rolls…
“It’s been a long wait for the next title in the Sketchbook’s comedic library,’ say QPAC theatre manager Dario Knight, who also serves as Unbound’s creative producer. “I’m delighted to say it’s definitely been worth the wait! This year’s show is packed full of hilarious material, including my particular favourite involving the world’s first (and worst) time machine”.
Part of QPAC’s award-winning storytelling company Unbound, the Sketchbook are celebrating five years of laugh-out-loud shows, having debuted their first production in 2016.
In addition to their five (soon-to-be-six) shows at QPAC’s Limelight Theatre, the Sketchbook have also hit the road with a successful tour in 2019 which saw them perform at the inaugural Exeter Fringe Festival, as well as venues closer to home.
Whilst live shows were postponed during lockdown, the team revived audio version of their favourite skits and set them to brand new illustrations from artists John and Angela North. A new tour is in the works for 2022, including a return visit to the Aylesbury Waterside Theatre.
“The team have come a long way from the first speculative writers’ meetings five years ago,” says Dario. “It’s been a joy to see them develop and welcome new talent to the team, whilst the cast of actors performing their material has grown and grown. I’m pleased to say there are plenty more pages of the Sketchbook still to be uncovered!”.
