Stoke Mandeville resident raises thousands for Breast Cancer charity - and she's not stopping there!

Jane Brooks from Stoke Mandeville has vowed to raise £50,000 for Breast Cancer Now, after her own diagnosis in 2011.

Jane initially planned to raise £1,000 for the charity when they contacted her in 2014, but after reaching that target by 2016, then by 2017 Jane kept raising more and more!

She told Bucks Radio exactly why she wants to raise as much money as possible:

"Breast cancer Now's vision is by 2050 that everyone diagnosed with breast cancer will live and live well, and that's why I do my fundraising because I would love to see them realise that vision."

Jane organises and takes part in a whole range of events, such as raffles, book sales, shopping event, painting workshops, afternoon teas, and her own personal endurance/sporting challenges too.

We asked her what her favourite, and NOT to favourite events have been!:

"I do a process afternoon tea which is a very popular fundraising event, that goes down really well, but personally I did the moon walk a few years ago, which is doing a marathon walking around London at night, everyone wears light up bras, and by the end of that challenge I vowed to never do it again!"

Jane's own personal journey has inspired her to help the charity, as she told us how she is now:

"I'm 10 years clear now, its 11 years since I found my lump, I completed all my treatment in 2011, and everything is looking good."

She now dedicates her time and energy to raising money for the Breast Cancer Now charity, and her plans for next year are getting bigger and better,

"What I'd really like to do, [is] Breast cancer now have their 'Wear it pink day' in October, so next year I'd just love if if I could gets lots of local businesses on board -wearing pink, holding raffles and cake sales. If everyone does a little bit it makes a big difference and that's how the research is going to be funded that will eventually help reach what the charity hopes to achieve."
