Teenager jailed for murder of Cameron Bailey

A teenager has been jailed in connection with the death of Cameron Bailey in High Wycombe.

Jayden Gubetini, aged 18, of Coe Spur, Slough, was yesterday jailed for a minimum term of 29 years following a hearing at Reading Crown Court.

Following a trial at the same court, lasting nine weeks, Jayden Gubetini was found guilty by unanimous jury verdict on Thursday 24 October last year of one count each of murder, attempted murder, conspiracy to commit robbery and section 18 grievous bodily harm with intent.

Aaran Pattinson, Philip Solomon, Scott Cordice and Marlon Cato were also jailed in connection with the death of Cameron Bailey, a 17-year-old boy from West Sussex and the attempted murder of his friend, another boy who was also aged 17 at the time.

Cameron Bailey and his friend, both travelled from the Brighton area of West Sussex to High Wycombe in May of 2023.

On 6 May 2023, Jayden Gubetini travelled from Slough to High Wycombe and robbed both victims of drugs. This incident was not reported at the time.

The following day Gubetini returned to High Wycombe alongside Cordice, Pattinson and Solomon, and robbed Cameron Bailey and his friend again in King’s Court, Easton Street, High Wycombe.

During this robbery Cameron Bailey was fatally stabbed and his friend was wounded.

Despite the best efforts of the South Central Ambulance Service, Cameron Bailey was sadly pronounced deceased by the paramedics at the scene.

A Home Office post-mortem confirmed that the cause of Cameron Bailey’s death was a stab wound to the back.

As a result of the attack, Cameron’s friend sustained a cut to the top of his head, a fractured skull and a cut to his hand which required surgery.

An investigation was subsequently launched by the Major Crime Unit.

Cordice, Pattinson, Solomon and Cato were charged on 11 and 12 May 2023.

Having fled to the Netherlands, Gubetini was returned to the UK on 5 July 2023 and was put before the court the following day.

Gubetini’s sentence concerning section 18 grievous bodily harm with intent relates to an incident of assault at HMP Bullingdon on 8 May last year where he slashed another inmate to the face with an improvised weapon, namely a blade.

Senior investigating officer Detective Inspector Stuart May, of the Major Crime Unit, said: “Gubetini is a dangerous individual who, despite his age, has demonstrated his intent to repeatedly use serious violence.

“Gubetini will now face the consequences of his actions by serving a significant custodial sentence, reflecting the gravity of the offences committed.

“At the conclusion of this case I am mindful of the unimaginable impact this has had on the family of Cameron Bailey and his friend.

“They have had to endure many months of pain while we investigated his murder, and I would like to thank them for their patience and dignity, and for putting their trust in our investigation.

“This was a complex investigation, and through diligent investigative work, we were able to identify the men involved in the death of Cameron Bailey and who will now spend a significant time behind bars.

“Too often, we are reminded of the danger of carrying and using knives, the devastating consequences and the impact such a short moment in time has on the victim, their family and friends.

“Harsher consequences have now been brought in, meaning you will end up in court and habitual offenders will trigger mandated minimum sentences more quickly. There are no second chances.

“If you are caught in possession of a knife in public in the Thames Valley, Operation Deter will seek to robustly charge and remand you and place you before the courts.

"We are resolute in our determination to make our communities safer by removing knives from our streets.”

“My thoughts and that of Thames Valley Police very much remain with the family of Cameron Bailey and his friend at this difficult time.

“My message to the community is if you have any information about anybody who is carrying a knife, please report this to us, either on 101 or by calling the independent charity Crimestoppers 100% anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
