Thame Midsomer Walking Tours Return

The ever-popular Thame Midsomer Walking Tours have returned for the 2025 season The tours will continue every Wednesday until 29th October, with additional Saturday tours running from 21st June to 13th September at 2 pm.

Thame is one of the most-filmed locations for the beloved television series Midsomer Murders, appearing variously as Causton and as one of the many picturesque villages of Midsomer County (Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire). The walking tours commence outside Thame Town Hall, where participants are welcomed by a knowledgeable guide before embarking on a journey through the town’s 23 Midsomer Murders filming locations. Key sites include Thame Town Hall (also known as Causton Town Hall), the Spread Eagle Hotel, the Black Horse Pub & Brasserie, Rumsey’s Chocolaterie, and Buttermarket.

In addition to the Midsomer Murders connections, participants will also delve into Thame’s rich historical past, from its ancient Neanderthal remains to events from the English Civil War and Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee. A highlight of the tour is The Prebendal, a historic building that was once the home of Bee Gee Robin Gibb, who is buried in St Mary’s Churchyard nearby. Visitors can also explore the Robin Gibb Gallery at Thame Museum, another Midsomer filming location.

The tours are led by a team of seven dedicated volunteer guides, all experts not only on Midsomer Murders locations, episodes, and actors but also on local history and the many unusual methods of murder featured in the series.

Midsomer Murders fans have expressed their enthusiasm for the tour, with one participant stating, “I can see why the tour is so popular – it was a delight! It was very informative, not only regarding Midsomer Murders, but also with more general historical information. We all had a very enjoyable time. I can confidently recommend the Midsomer tour for anyone with an interest in Midsomer and in Thame’s historical background.”

Tour coordinator Tony Long shared his excitement about the new season, saying, “We are delighted that our popular Midsomer Walking Tours are starting a new season. Midsomer fans and visitors from all over the world will once again visit Thame and take the tour. Midsomer Murders is one of our most popular TV series, now in its 28th year and counting.”

With an estimated one billion viewers worldwide and having been broadcast in over 200 countries, Midsomer Murders remains a global sensation. Since its debut in 1997, the show has produced 24 series and 132 episodes. Excitingly, filming for series 25 is set to begin at the end of March, featuring four new stories that continue to capture audiences around the world.
