The festive season got underway in Aylesbury over the weekend with the popular Christmas on the Cobbles event.

Thousands of residents flocked to the town’s centre to participate in an afternoon of festive family fun, completely free of charge.

The event featured an array of fun-filled activities, including arts and crafts, entertainment, games, a fun fair, and an illuminated light parade. The town’s lights were switched on by the Mayor of Aylesbury, Cllr Steven Lambert and his guests.

LED drumming group, Spark!, added a glowing performance to the festivities by leading the illuminated parade around Market Square. Santa Claus, delighted onlookers, with Aylesbury Waterside Theatre’s Panto stars Andy Collins and Leon Craig joining in the procession.

More than 550 people took part in the Illuminated Parade including local families and community groups such as Aylesbury Wombles, Unbound Theatre and Castielli School of Dance.

Prior to the parade, residents had the opportunity to decorate their own lanterns in workshops held at Friars Square Shopping Centre on the day. 63 families proudly showcased their creations during the procession.

The Mayor of Aylesbury, Cllr Steven Lambert, said: "Christmas on the Cobbles has truly brought our community together, creating special memories for residents of all ages. I’d like to thank everyone who joined us on Sunday as well as all the event volunteers, sponsors and supporters who, without them, hosting events such as these wouldn’t be possible."

The Town Council extends its thanks to event sponsors Bucks Radio and Friars Square Shopping Centre and appreciation to event supporters BORG 4x4, Chiltern View Ice Rink, Hand Talking, Radley Windows and Doors, Zoomania, Michael Anthony Estate Agents and all event volunteers. With additional thanks to Buckinghamshire Council for their support and grant funding contribution towards the Christmas lights.
