TVP support the National Seatbelt Campaign Week

With the law to wear a seatbelt having been in action for over 30 years now, the Roads Police are still seeing first-hand the devastating consequences that can result from not wearing a seatbelt.

Officers will be carrying out education and enforcement activity throughout this week of action.

Road Safety Sergeant Dave Hazlett, said: “Wearing a seatbelt is the law, it is not a choice, and it saves lives.

“Research has shown that many collisions happen at a low speed, within a few miles of home and that if you are involved in a collision and are not wearing a seatbelt, you could hit the windscreen at a force of 30 to 60 times your body weight.

“Please wear a seatbelt every journey, it is not worth the risk.”

Children must use the most suitable child seat to ensure their belt is positioned correctly for maximum safety.

You can find more information about how to choose the right car seat & how to fit it here - https://orlo.uk/R57nn

They're also reminding residents that the Highway Code asks drivers to make sure that pets & animals are restrained in a vehicle.

This is to make sure that they cannot distract the driver or injure you or themselves in the event of stopping quickly.
