A large number of households across the town have woken up to little or no water this morning.
It's was due to low water pressure and no water in HP18, HP19 & HP21.
Latest UPDATE: 14:28
We fixed the issue around 12 midday and water supplies should be back on. We do advise customers that it can take a little bit of time for the pressure in our pipes to build back up, so your water may splutter to begin with. Just turn on your cold kitchen tap and it should flow freely after a couple of minutes. If it’s cloudy, this should also clear fairly quickly. If customers are still struggling with no water or low pressure, here’s what to do next.
Latest UPDATE: 11:28
A Thames Water spokesperson said: “We’re sorry to customers in the HP18, HP19 and HP21 areas who are experiencing no water or low pressures this morning. Our engineers have been operating valves in the local supply network to get things back to normal as soon as possible and we’re expecting supplies to return over the next few hours. We know how inconvenient and worrying it is not to have water, so would like to apologise for the disruption.”
For background, we’re continuing to see high numbers of customers reporting leaks and burst pipes as a result of the milder weather. The changing temperatures can cause our pipes, and the ground around them, to expand and contract. This in turn means pipes can contract or burst.
We’re fixing around 70% more leaks than normal and to prepare for the current change in temperature we increased staff numbers to have more teams available to answer calls and carry out repairs. We're prioritising repairs to make sure we tackle the most urgent first. We're sorry if we’re delayed in responding, our customer and engineering teams are focusing as much resource as possible to support customers and look after the network.
